Default "Lazy Eye"

I am wondering if anyone has any good tips to help correct lazy eye. I am posting a sample of what I mean. Her left eye. In almost every photo in this session it was very evident. I did some of her a few weeks ago & it wasn't so bad. Wondering if maybe her being tired, or her contacts bothering her made a difference? Has anyone else had to deal with this much: I seem to get it quite a lot. (I know this is not a great photo, but just wanted to show what I mean) Thanks for any input.

About the only thing you can do naturally is keep the head fairly level. A hard tilt either way will force it closed more. Other than that - photoshop as far as I know to really tackle it.

I just had a bride with it, I feel your pain - but in the end - it's them, it's normal, no real need to overly hide it or change it unless they ask.

One of my eyes does this. Apparently there's a hereditary gene that gives your eyelids either one fold or two. I have one of each, so it *looks* like I have a lazy eye....when in fact I have what I just call a "lazy eyelid". lol
I agree with Kaelaria that if the customer didn't ask for it to be fixed, probably not worth the effort to do it.

I agree with Kent... reflecting Kae's comment.

I have a lazy eye as well.

I call it a "wonk eye" LOL.

If I see people with a wonk eye... I'll do what Kae said and try to adjust for.

But I also know it's "part" of me.

Great thread.

Gene,
Is your "wonk eye" your left eye?
I have developed this over the years...wasn't that way when I was younger, but I think it has something to do with looking through the camera with the same eye for a long time. I have only noticed it in the last few years and I brought it up with my eye doctor last week. His response, "Oh yeah, it IS kinda crooked isn't it."

LOL...

Toni.

My "wonk eye" is indeed my LEFT eye.

My right is dominant. And it's also my "shooting" eye.

You might be on to something...

That's interesting. We hold the right eye wide open when we look through the viewfinder and over time it becomes wider open in appearance. The left eye goes on vacation.
I'll bet you carry your heaviest camera bag on the same shoulder all the time, too....

When I get really really tired, my right eye droops a little. I'm right handed, but left eye dominant. I never thought about a connection between dominance and lazy eyes. Interesting.

I'm also a club member

My wonky eye is my right eye and I'm right handed
We should have t-shirts made

I wonder if it gets more prominent the older you get
I assume it's a eye lid muscle thing going on
Or does it have to do with way back when we were created and God didn't make the eye lid opening as wide in one of our eyes as the the other

Back to issue of photographing a person with lazy eye. IF you are shooting close portraits ( like the one above ) and have a hand in posing, it is good to try a few shots with the lazy eye away from the camera to minimize it. Otherwise, I believe that unless they request corrections, just capture the person "as is".... it is part of who they are.

Come on, can't we have fun every once in a while and be like everybody else in the world once in a while. Talk about stuff that doesn't really matter but so what. We aren't Wedding Photographers 24 hours a day. Most of the time I'm just a wonky eyed devil just wondering what went wrong with my Photography Business.

Actually if you have someone with a Wonky Eye, I wonder if you could have them purposely try to close their larger eye a little in some of the pictures. I tried it in the mirror, it takes practice. My eye muscle starts twitching a little.

Gene! I am busting a gut laughing! My husband has a "lzy eyelid" and in fact - when he was baby - it was so long that it covered his entire eye and looked like he was winking the entire time! He had surgery to correct it a tiny bit - but it is still quite evident when he's tired, drinks a little too many bevvies or is forced to blink fast (flashes) ....

Anyways - the point of my story is ....

We have called it his "wonk" eye since I met him about 10 years ago!! Glad to know the term was also used elsewhere in teh world!

I really do think that photographers have the lazy eyelid tendancy more than others. I saw a lot of full time shooters that would come into the store who have a lazy eyelid. I shoot with both eye, so I'm wondering which one of mine will go lazy first. lol

I shoot with Laxy eyed subjects.. And when its not a rush situation, the best thing that works is having them close their eyes and counting to 3 and hold down the button! I have found if you catch it right when they open their eyes it is the best and 9 out of 10 times I get rid of the laze eye....

Other than that all I can suggest is get one good eye picture and just photoshop it on every photo!! hahaha jk that would be a pain!

I can't believe I just saw this!! You guys are killing me ... forest gump. crying LMAO!!

I have ran across this, too...I usually just use the push brush in photoshop to correct it. It takes a little time, but even just a fraction of pushing can make a difference.
